Introduction for Boston University

Hi friends and classmates!

My name is Bryan Luciani. I am a proud husband and the father of twin boys who are presently in their sophomore year at Portland State University. I also have an awesome dog named Sam. I was born overseas in Maracaibo,Venezuela and lived there until I was 13. My folks were in the oil business down there. I am fluent in Spanish as I am in English. My family moved to Houston, Texas in 1975 and I lived in Texas until I joined the Navy in late 1983.

After 22 very interesting years of active duty in the Navy, I retired in 2005 at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. I spent most of my military time on destroyers, aircraft carriers, a little time in the amphib Navy, and finished as a Department Head working with the Navy SEALs at the Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado, California. I truly enjoyed serving my country in the U.S. Navy.

We moved to Canada after I "retired" (my wife is Canadian) and I worked there as the Production Project Manager of Campion Marine boats, and later as the Plant Manager of a mid-sized cabinet manufacturing plant. After living the good life there (skiing, golfing, and wine tasting) and realizing I needed to get on with my next career, we decided to come home in 2009 so I could finish by college education, get my certifications as a Project Manager and get my boys ready for college. After living in many different locations in Southern California and Hawaii over the years, we decided to settle west of Portland, Oregon in a quiet country town called Forest Grove.

I've accomplished most of my "return home" goals, as I finished a BS in Management Administration and a BS in Psychology, as well as having my twin sons graduate high school with Honors and now living the adult life. My college education spans many schools as I have attended Texas Tech University, University of Hawaii (Manoa), University of Phoenix, and Excelsior College (New York). It must seem extreme for some people, but when you are in the military, you have to get the schooling you can, when your commands and mission commitments permit.

I finished and published my Navy memoirs in 2011 and am slowly progressing on my second book with hopes to having it ready for publishing in the near future. Obviously I enjoy writing.

I am a fan of friendly wines (and very partial to the Shiraz/Syrah and blends of Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale in South East Australia), and I also enjoy a quiet round of golf, skiing the blue runs (I have bad knees), reading good books, and intelligent conversation.

Boston University has the best Project Management program available and provides up to date materials and concepts. This is exactly what I need to become "current" in today's fast paced and ever changing business world. That is why I selected BU for my Masters.

So far at BU I have completed: Financial Concepts (AD-632), Ecommerce & Web Design (AD-648), Project Management (AD-642), Project Management Communications (AD-643), Program Management and Planning (AD-646), and Business Continuity, Security, Risk Management (AD-610), Quantitative and Qualitative Decision Making (AD-715), Project Risk & Cost Management (AD-644), and Incident Response and Disaster Recovery (AD-614). I am presently taking International Business, Economics & Cultures (AD-655). I am scheduled to graduate in December 2013.

Cheers to you all.

Bryan
